Bone Mineral Density (BMD)
Gold Healthcare is a specialist in conducting BMD assessment camps across India. We have a fleet of ultrasound BMD machines and trained personnel who can help you conduct BMD assessment programs as a method of preventive screening for osteoporosis. We use non-invasive, ultrasound BUA technology to do these tests.
These machines are radiation free and thus safe for taking repetitive tests as and when required
Even children and pregnant women can safely take a BMD test on our machines
The machine gives output in the form of the T-score, among other parameters. You'll find, at the end of this page, the scale that shows your bone health with respect to your T-score.
In lay terms, a BMD test measures the amount of minerals - namely calcium - in your bones. If this calcium content is below certain thresholds, the patient is either at risk for osteoporosis, or already osteoporotic. Osteoporosis causes your bone tissue to degrade over time and makes your bone brittle. The patient is at risk for getting disabling fractures, collapse of the spine, joint pain. The test is very important for seniors and for women.
Ideally, everyone above the age of 50 must get screened for osteoporosis.
A BMD assessment camp can screen up to 100 patients in a span of 4 to 5 hours for osteopenia and osteoporosis. The patient doesn't need to do any kind of preparation in terms of fasting or diet and doesn't need to wear any special clothing. The foot is placed on the machine such that the heel lies between the two probes that will extend and pass the ultrasound from one side of the heel to the other.
